Want to take a particular class but it is not listed or times and dates conflict? Contact the AFAA by calling 503-325-5598 and leave a clear message, our instructor will get back to you. We often have the luxury to change times and days. Also, come into the retail store on weekends - Saturday & Sunday 12:00 noon to 4:00 and Sunday.

AVA Members receive a 10% discount on the class tuition. Check back often. Classes are added frequently.

Paper Creation

Learn Symmetry through Making Ornamental Papers

Have fun exploring symmetry and pattern. Learn the 4 symmetry operations and use them to create the 7 band symmetries, first by rubber-stamping and then by freezer-paper stenciling. Select your favorite symmetry group and stamp it onto a fabric square that becomes a traditional Japanese gift-wrapping cloth.

Learn the basic functions of your sewing machine by finding out what the different knobs and dials on your sewing machine do.

Sewing for Absolute Beginners

Learn how to sew a simple project of your choosing now that you have learned the basic function of your machine. Learn how to cut out your project, how to sew it together using a sewing machine and how to finish it.

Learn the difference between knitted lace and lace knitting and how to read charts and their symbols while producing a lace piece that looks complicated but is easy. !
